Taiwan High Speed Rail Changes Its Rules Governing Compensation

Taiwan’s High Speed Rail has launched a new system for handling ticket refunds if a train is delayed. Previously, commuters had the choice of a voucher for a new train ticket or a cash refund. Under the new system launched in December though, travelers can only receive cash. In addition, the scope of compensation available has been expanded to include refunds if the train’s air conditioning fails and refunds for delays caused by actions of third parties. In December, the High Speed Rail opened the new Yunlin County station. On Friday there were many delays because of signal failures, with one delay lasting over half an hour. Previously for delays of over 30 minutes, passengers could ask for a refund worth half the ticket’s price or receive a train ticket voucher worth half the ticket. I think cash refunds are better as if I receive a coupon for half a train ticket, I need to take the High Speed Rail again in future.In addition, rules governing taking pets on the trains have been relaxed to include rabbits and tortoises, which were not permitted in the past.
