Rbmn 2102 425 A Doubleheaded Iron Horse Ramble

On Saturday, August 13th, 2022, the Reading and Northern Railroad presented a very special Iron Horse Ramble excursion featuring both of their operational steam engines on the head end as a doubleheader. This was an event many railfans and train enthusiasts alike had been waiting for over the past years, which was clearly shown by the number of people who appeared trackside and rode onboard the sold-out excursion. Overall, it was another excellent event produced by the Reading and Northern Railroad and steam crew.. . In my chase of the excursion, I arrived at the Port Clinton Steam Shop early on Saturday morning in order to see the engines prepare for their deadhead move to Reading Outer Station, where they would attach to their train and head north. I caught the deadhead at both Port Clinton and Leesport, then arrived at Reading Outer Station to watch the excursion’s departure.. . I then followed the consist north toward Jim Thorpe, catching it along several points on the mainline. Upon arrival in Jim Thorpe, I also watch the entire consist get turned around on the Wye. Unfortunately, I was unable to witness any events within the town of Jim Thorpe.. . However, I was able to resume my chase in Barnesville on the excursion’s return to Port Clinton. I was also able to catch the excursion at several other points on the way. Once the consist arrived at Port Clinton, the steam engines were cut off and the protect power diesels were used to take the train and passengers back to Reading Outer Station. This is because the logistics of recrewing both engines at Port Clinton were limited per FRA regulations.. . I’d like to thank both the Reading and Northern Railroad and the steam crew for providing this incredible excursion, as it truly brought a lot of joy to myself and many other railfans and train enthusiasts alike.
