Campaigning for Japan’s Upper House election officially began on Jun 22, ahead of the Jul 10 poll. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s economic and defence policies are in focus, amid surging energy and food prices and growing geopolitical tensions in the region. Elections are held every three years for half of the 248-seat Chamber. This time, 125 seats are up for grabs, including one to fill a vacancy.
